Somedays, patience is easy. Otherdays, not so much.
In the classroom, A is at his desk. Assignment: "Cut out this set of shapes, glue to make a pattern. Supplies are in your desk, or get some from the classroom supplies." I go to work with a couple kids. I get stuck for a while, but keep my eyes on everyone else. All appear busy. Finally I get a chance for a walk-about. A at desk. Nothing's happening.
Me: "Where's your scissors, A?"
Student: "I don't have any"
Me: "Did you look in your desk"
Student: "No"
Me: "Did you expect them to magically fall from the sky?"

Exclusion
Some kids are in trouble. They have detention. But, our classroom rule is that everyone has a chance, no one is excluded.
A said to me, "Why are you excluding me from being in trouble?"
A said to me, "Why are you excluding me from being in trouble?"
About Me
I am a teacher of students with intellectual disabilities. My students are aged 9 to 12 and are just about the neatest kids around. I teach them up to three years, and I only have about 12 kids at a time, so I get to know them and their lives very well. It is a rewarding, although sometimes crazy difficult job that I love! But, they can say the strangest, funniest and weirdest stuff. So much so that I often say to myself "huh?!" and then "I need to remember that!" So, here's the place for me to remember and keep account of those one-liners, and the sometimes longer stories that make working with this bunch of students so amazing!
